Outdoors
There are many and varied outdoor adventure activities in the area – something for everyone.
Whitewater Rafting
The Wa River has 3 sections for rafting – each is a different level of difficulty and each requires a different amount of time.
- Start Section: Requires overnight stay, and in here the Wa River is narrow and swift, with 100+ rapids in its journey down toward Mae Charim National Park. In Wet Season (June-Sept) this section is rated at Grade 4 – 5.
- Middle Section: Can be divided into 2 portions – the first is a day trip and a bit easier, but there are some Grade 4 sections and excellent scenery. The 2nd stretch of river is a bit more difficult and difficulty varies from 2 – 5, and takes 2 days and a 1 night camp on the river bank.
- End Section: The last stretch usually includes both easier rafting and elephant rides. Some participants like to carry on to Sri Nan National Park where there is a nice view of the sunsets from a cliff overlooking the park.

Ban Bo Klua or "salt mine village" is located deep in the mountains of Nan, at the bottom of a valley where Highway 1256 and 1081 intersect. Salt water is extracted from wells in the village, and evaporated off to produce salt, traded here for centuries.
Doi Phukha National Park is located north of Nan city. The highest peak - Doi Phukha - is 1,980 metres (6,600ft) high. Northern Thailand’s largest national park (1,704 km2) has an abundance of limestone caves, karsts, waterfalls and fossils.
